A WORLD title fight in America is next on Ben Jones' wishlist after becoming WBO European super-featherweight champion on Saturday night.

The Capel fighter eased to a unanimous points victory over Scotland's Kris Hughes in front of a packed house at the K2 Leisure Centre and now he wants to test himself on the world stage with a lucrative American adventure.

He said afterwards: "Hopefully I'll get a nice world title shot in America for the next one, that would be nice, we'll see what happens, see what they can provide, what they can come up with.

"It would be lovely, if I can get that it would be great, but it's down to Assassin Promotions to do their magic."

Jay Morris, manager at Assassin Promotions was delighted with the outcome and admitted that there are plans in place for Jones, with offers set to come in for the boxer.

He said: "We've got a plan in place and we're going to be speaking to Ben in the next few weeks. We've heard rumours there's going to be an offer for Ben as well, I don't know what it is, I've only heard rumours, but from what I've heard I don't think it's going to be worth the risk, I think we might be better off sticking to our own thing."

Morris said that he would prefer it if Jones continued doing what he is doing in this country before taking the plunge in America.

"I'd like him to have a couple of fights against experienced old-timers, a tough Italian or someone that's been round the block," he stated.

"When he fights for a world title we want him to be able to win it."
