FOR the second time in four days Leatherhead travelled to Kent and returned home with nothing.
But after a poor performance in the 2-0 defeat at Folkestone Invicta, they will have been disappointed to lose at Faversham Town on Tuesday night.
The Tanners had the better of the first half, but went into the interval a goal behind thanks to James Peacock's glancing header from a Wayne Wilson free-kick.
In the second half they huffed and puffed, but no equaliser was forthcoming. The Lilywhites looked dangerous on the break and could have added to their lead, but a draw probably would have been the fairest result.
Football is not fair though, and Leatherhead could quite easily bemoan a growing injury list.
Neil Jenkins was the latest to be added to that when he was forced off after just eight minutes at Salters Lane.
After giving away a free-kick in the left-back area, Jenkins appeared to have his hand trodden on. He was taken to hospital with his hand split open.
Jenkins joins Tom Bradbrook, Jamie Coyle, Liam Pestle and Matt Smart on the sidelines.
His injury meant an unfamiliar back-line on Tuesday with Jerry Nnamani and Chris Boulter flanked by two midfield players in Elliott Thompson, at right-back, and midfielder and new signing Andrew Burns, at left-back.
And the unfamiliarity of the side showed as passes went astray with players seemingly on different wavelengths.
However, they did have their chances and were unlucky to go in at half-time a goal behind.
Another new signing, Allan Tait hit high and wide with just the keeper to beat, Liam Wright thundered a pile-driver into the arms of Simon Overland before the Faversham keeper made the best save of the night, spreading himself to deny Wright once more, this time in a one-on-one situation.
Tommy Hutchings then blazed over the top when well placed before the hosts took the lead. they might have had a second straight after the kick-off following the opening goal, but Andy Young made a fine stop to deny Danny Hockton.
After the interval Mark Simmons and Hutchings both had shots from inside the box blocked as Faversham flung their bodies at every attempt on goal.
At the other end Luke Harvey could only direct a good low cross from Wilson straight at Young.
Leatherhead added fresh legs from the bench and one of them, Ryan Flack was inches away from levelling the scores. He picked up the ball 30 yards out, advanced a few strides before unleashing a superb effort that beat Overland but came back off his post.
Hutchings then hit the side netting following a scramble in the hosts' box before Wilson almost sealed it for Town when Young came rushing out of his goal and headed the ball to him, but his return was just over the top.
Faversham held on quite comfortably in the end though to move six points clear in third place.
