POLICE are searching for the person responsible for the death of three puppies which were abandoned on Ranmore Common.
The bodies of the animals, believed to be around six weeks old, were found by a walker who was helping a friend look for a lost dog at around 6pm on February 20.
The border collie puppies, one male and two females, are believed to have frozen to death after being dumped along scout tracks on the top of Ranmore within the previous 48 hours.
Mole Valley District Council spokeswoman, Nicky Peet, said both its animal warden and the police were investigating the incident.
James Friend, the council's portfolio holder for environmental health, said: "Cases of this nature are very rare in Mole Valley but we would encourage anyone with any information regarding these puppies to contact the council immediately."
The council's dog team can be reached by calling 01306 885001.
