LEATHERHEAD put in a spirited performance to come back from two goals down to draw with Tooting & Mitcham at Fetcham Grove on Tuesday night.

Tom Bradbrook equalised with his second goal in as many games late onafter Mark Simmons had earlier scored from the spot.

In what was Richard Brady's side's first game in two weeks because of the weather, two goals either side of half-time for the visitors threatened to extend the Tanners' poor run of recent form.

Early on, Leatherhead keeper Andrew Young had to be at his best to deny pacy striker Bamoussa Cisse from scoring twice, first in a one-on-one, and then again with an instinctive save after a deflection.

In an end-to-end half, the Tanners came close to opening the scoring too, first from Tommy Hutchings after a neat turn, and then when Bradbrook missed two free headers from Jamie Coyle crosses.

The deadlock was broken somewhat fortuitously by the visiting side on 41 minutes. Cisse's strike partner Carl Wilson-Denis' shot looked to be going just wide, when a wicked deflection off Neil Jenkins sent the ball past the helpless Young.

Into the second half, the Terrors' dynamic front two were causing more problems for the Tanners back four. Wilson-Denis raced down the right hand side, and squared it to the thankful Cisse, who slotted home to leave the Tanners 2-0 down.

Almost immediately, however, the hosts got just what they needed when a penalty was awarded for handball, and captain Mark Simmons sent the Terrors keeper the wrong way.

The home side then looked sure to equalise when Hutchings broke the offside trap and squared the ball to Elliot Thompson with the goal gaping, but the winger hit the crossbar.

More and more pressure was to follow, but with the Tanners pushing men forward, the Terrors almost nicked a third when substitute Anthony Lelson's shot trickled just wide.

They were made to pay, as Thompson redeemed for his earlier miss with a fine floated cross to the back post, which Bradbrook duly headed home in the 81st minute.

Late on, a Simmons header was tipped over the bar, before another handball shout from the Tanners.

The draw leaves Leatherhead just outside the play-offs in seventh place and without a win in four, although they have games in hand on most of the teams above them.

Leatherhead: Young, Coyle, Jenkins, Nnamani, Boulter, Smart, Thompson, Simmons, Bradbrook, Hutchings, Terry (Flack 86).
