EFFINGHAM & Leatherhead welcomed Camberley to a wet and windy Brown's Lane on Saturday, looking to complete the double over the bottom side having narrowly won the reverse fixture.
The Eagles made a few changes to their team sheet with Sam Prior at lock, Matt Manning at scrum-half, and Luke Quinn at loose-head.
Camberley came out fighting, though, mounting a series of sustained attacks in the Eagles' 22, testing their defensive organisation.
When the Eagles stole a lineout, Brian Collins put Ed Ralph at centre away in space for Richard Smith to open the scoring.
Five points became seven, with a great kick from Stuart Fee from the touch line.
The Eagles were shading possession and territory, with Collins peppering the corners to good effect.
Another Collins boomer forced a lineout on the visitors' 22 as the effective kick-chase pressured the Camberley full-back to run the ball into touch.
Prior was proving a reliable catcher and the Eagles forwards made headway. Sharp offloads from Quinn to Olie Rees to Eion Mullen opened up play, and a pass out of the tackle gave John Squire at wing the space and opportunity to take play up to the try-line. Rees was on hand to touch down, improved by Fee for 14-0.
Camberley proved to be dogged defenders and forced the Eagles into mistakes.
However, the pressure told and Jason Evans combined neatly with Ralph for the third try, with Fee on the money with the extras, for 21-0.
Camberley restarted with a grubber, but Tom Ellinson fielded tidily and made 30 yards before offloading to John Stocker, who continued the drive up to the visitors' 22.
As the Eagles forwards mounted phase after phase of close assaults on the try-line, it seemed a further score must come, but Camberley got a penalty, kicked clear to touch.
From the lineout, James Tublesi made his presence felt with a run that drew in defenders, and Manning was on hand to provide quick ruck ball to Collins, whose beautifully judged cross-kick was caught by Squire to touch down for the final score of the half.
In the second half, play was soon up to the Camberley 22, but their defence had reorganised well and they slowed down possession.
Prior rose to collect a ball from a lineout on the five-yard line, and a rolling maul drove over the try-line for Dom Young to touch down. Fee's conversion made it 33-0.
Undaunted, Camberley took the game to the Eagles, with some powerful drives by the tight forwards. The Eagles managed to turn the ball over and the back line set off ambitiously to run the ball from the home 22. Squire wrong-footed the cover defence, offloaded to Richard Smith, who neatly chipped the full-back, collected and touched down. Fee added the extras for 41-0.
Dave Ellis, who came on at wing, then put Ed Ralph clear up to the visitors' 22, and he swiftly offloaded to Squire, who scored in the corner for an unconverted try.
Camberley staged a storming last few minutes and pinned the Eagles in their own 22, crossing the line for a deserved final score, so it was 46-7 at full time.
