NO ONE was injured as a fire gutted an antiques workshop in Dorking. The workshop behind Elias Antiques - also known as the Dorking Desk Shop - in West Street, was destroyed by a blaze which started at around 2pm. The cause of the fire is currently unknown. The flames destroyed the workshop but did not spread into the store. Glyn Elias, from Elias Antiques, confirmed the fire is now under control and no one was hurt. Eyewitness Kevin Parrott reported three fire engines were at the scene in West Street, a street known for its many antique shops. A crew from Dorking Fire Station was called to the scene shortly after 2pm and are still in attendance. A South East Coast Ambulance Service was called to the scene but left soon after. Shop owners in the street reported the fire was behind one of the antique shops but most were unsure exactly where. Traffic entering the town from the Westcott direction is being diverted left into Station Road. Check back for updates.
