A LONG-SERVING pub landlord from Dorking bid a fond farewell to his faithful customers after his lease expired this week.

Stuart Yeatman called time at the Kings Arms in West Street for the last time yesterday (Wednesday) after 20 years behind the bar.

The Deepdene Vale resident said he had greatly enjoyed his time in charge at the grade II listed pub, which is one of the oldest buildings in Dorking.

"When we first took over it was quite run-down but we built it up," he said.

"We built up a very good reputation for music and had it twice weekly.

"We were probably the first pub in Dorking to introduce it 20 years ago and people clamoured to play here."

The father-of-one said his time in charge had flown by and he was currently thinking about what to do next.

He said: "The beauty of the pub was that it always had such a fantastic cross-section of customers. I'm very sad to be leaving but we have had a fantastic time here."

The pub will remain open to be run by brewer Shepherd Neame.
