HAYDEN BIRD watched his side squander at hatful of chances in a 2-2 draw with struggling Horsham on Tuesday night – and admitted: "It was very much two points dropped."
Fabio Saraiva had given Merstham an early lead but Horsham equalised against the run of play.
Liam Wright restored the advantage but again Horsham hit back and the Ryman League Division One South spoils were shared.
A frustrated Bird said: "We should have beaten them. We made two defensive lapses and gave away two very bad goals because of it.
"The game almost became too easy for us. The win would have taken us up to fifth and we've thrown away two very, very important points.
"We had a number of chances and it was that, and a combination of bad defending, that cost us. We should have had the game sewn up.
"We created a number of really good opportunities which we didn't take. There must have been three, four or five we should have scored.
"In the second half we came out the dressing room slowly and paid the price but even so, we had chances to win it.
"We were completely dominant and we squandered a real opportunity to move up the table."
Bird wants his side to right the wrongs on Saturday when they travel to Mick Sullivan's Walton Casuals, who sit bottom of the table.
Sullivan managed the Moatsiders up until 2009 before he moved to local rivals Leatherhead.
Bird said: "It's always a bit tougher when you go up against someone who used to be at the club. They're struggling a little but they'll be guided to safety."
