CHILDREN will be able to enjoy more days out after a school received a £10,000 donation from Ashtead Rotary Club.
Woodlands School, in Leatherhead, wanted a compact minibus which could be driven on an ordinary licence, so that pupils at the school could take part in more trips.
Staff chose a VW Caddy which is large enough to accommodate a big wheelchair, and also has an efficient engine, meaning there will be no costs in entering the London Emissions Zone.
Gill Lloyd, assistant head of the secondary section of the school, said: "We use it to take individuals and small groups into the community and to enable an extra wheelchair user to join a group on a community activity.
"We also use it so the whole class group can participate in an visit or activity, and also to enable pupils to participate in after school clubs, as now we can get them home."
The funds for the bus were mainly generated by last year's Ashtead Village Day.
The Rotary Club is finalising plans for this year's 30th anniversary event, which will take place on Saturday, June 8.
