JOHN HAMSHER resigned as Chipstead manager last week and vice chairman Mike Ford, who has taken over as manager for the side's last three matches, says he was disappointed with the manner in which Hamsher left the club.
Speaking after Saturday's 2-2 draw with Whitstable Town, which preserved Chipstead's Ryman League Division One South status, Ford said the former Fulham, Dagenham & Redbridge and Stevenage defender had said some things that were simply not true following his departure.
Ford said: "Its been a tough week and I was hurt by some of the things that John has said about the club which are just not true.
"I spoke to the players on Wednesday after John made his decision to leave and we're all here united and all here to fight."
The draw on Saturday has secured Ryman League football for next year and the club feel the vacant management position provides an opportunity for a fresh input of positivity after a tough season.
"We've gone through a period where we have got eight points out of a possible 42. That isn't good enough for a club which has been challenging in the top half of the table in recent years. We need to return to those times," said Ford.
The vice chairman added that the hunt for a new manager will begin after their final game against Corinthian-Casuals.
"We'll get our remaining two games out of the way and then we'll start looking ahead to next season and look at the best options available to us", said Ford.
We've got some good players here but there is definitely rebuilding to be done. Whoever takes the job here will have some good players but they will have to bring in some new faces and build the squad up.
"We've had a big turnover of players which has affected our season; we haven't had stability so we'll be looking to strengthen the squad in the long term for sure. "This is a good club to come and manage at. People have already been on the phone but we'll wait until next week and then we'll make a decision."
Chipstead host Maidstone United at High Road tomorrow, before finishing the league campaign against Corinthian-Casuals on Saturday.
