ABINGER'S definitely got talent, and the village certainly rocked at a special charity night put on in the Abinger Hatch pub.
The entertainers were raising money for The Children's Trust, Tadworth, in memory of Markie Maybury, who spent his early years with his family in Abinger Common. Sadly, Markie died a few weeks ago, aged 18.
The organisers said that the biggest stars of the event were the 150 villagers and friends who came along and boosted the fund to a an impressive £1,206. The pub at Abinger Common was swamped with bands, comedians and singers.
Markie's mother, Janice Maybury, and her friends are now even more determined to raise as much sponsorship money as they can to fund vital equipment and special 24-hour care The Children's Trust provides for young people when it is no longer possible for them to be looked after at home.
Janice and her friends Debbie Bishop and Julie Willard ran and completed the London Marathon on Sunday. Julie had just been accepted as a late entry and was short of sponsors.
The teenage band, Vinyl Staircase impressed the audience, as did a 15-year-old comedian, Tom Lucy, and many others. The organiser of the event was Scott Innes who also acted as compère.
