DORKING Rugby Club suffered late heartbreak as they lost a dramatic promotion play-off against Exmouth in the dying stages this afternoon (Saturday).
Having been pipped to the National League Three London title by Bishop's Stortford, the Red & Whites travelled to the south west looking to seize a second chance at winning promotion to National League Two South.
And they looked to be on course to do just that, having led 14-11 at half time and 20-16 going into the closing stages of the match.
But they were cruelly denied with the last play of the match, as an Exmouth drive from a lineout saw them go over for a try to win the game 21-20.
The conversion attempt was missed, but it did not matter for the hosts, who celebrated promotion at the final whistle, while Dorking were left to contemplate another season in the division they led for the vast majority of the season.
