WORRIED residents have demanded action after lorries were secretly filmed mounting the kerb on a problem road.
The footage by an anonymous cameraman shows motorists "taking their lives in their hands" as they use the pinch-points in Godstone Road, Lingfield.
But far from making things better, residents say reckless road-users have turned the safety measure into an accident waiting to happen.
Pam Erskine, whose home juts out onto the nearby road, said: "Drivers shoot through here to get past the pinch-points so they don't have to wait for oncoming traffic. Take the pinch-points and kerb extension away now."
The traffic-calming measures were put in place in October after Tandridge District Council passed plans for 18 homes to be built.
After months of problems at the site, campaigners hope the footage will force the council to act.
Ms Erskine added: "The traffic comes through here faster and more dangerously than it did before the 'traffic calming'.
"On seeing it's clear, lorries come straight through at speed then hit the unexpected kerb to avoid traffic waiting in a queue outside my cottage."
Lingfield parish councillor Lisa Bangs said that the footage illustrated the concerns they have had since the scheme began.
She added: "It is terrifying to think of the consequences had there been people walking on the pavement. When will the council properly address our fears?"
The county council said it will monitor the scheme for a year to see if anything must change.
Ms Bangs added: "It is not acceptable to await the outcome of the monitoring in a year's time, when day in day out we are experiencing such compromised safety on one of our busiest roads.
"Action needs to be taken now before something serious happens."
A Surrey County Council spokesman said: "We are working with the developer to identify a solution to this problem."
