POLICE are appealing for information following an incident in Epsom where a mother and child suspected that they were being followed by a man.
The incident occurred around 12.30pm on Saturday, 20 April, when the woman in her 30s and her 4-year-old daughter were walking along Headley Close on to Chessington Road (in the direction of Ewell) crossing Hartford Close and Collier Close and suspected a small silver car being driven by a man to be following them.
As they approached Chessington Road (cul-de-sac) the man left his vehicle and approached the pair but soon returned to it when the woman asked him if he was ok.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Andy Cooper from East Surrey CID, said: "I would appeal to the man involved to make contact with officers as we need to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding this incident.
"At this stage in the investigation the motive behind the car following the two people is unclear and it may simply be a case of mistaken identity but I would appeal to anyone who has any information on this incident to contact Surrey Police."
Since the incident took place a number of enquiries have been carried out and local officers from the Epsom and Ewell Safer Neighbourhood Team are assisting detectives.
The man is described as white, aged in his late 20s to early 30s, around 5ft 8ins in height, of slim build with mousey brown hair. He was driving a three door, small silver car.
