REDHILL are celebrating this evening (Saturday) after a 2-0 win at East Preston saw them guarantee second place in the Sussex County League Division One and a likely promotion to the Ryman League Division One South.
Chris Gregson netted a brace for the Reds to seal second place in the division, which is likely to see them promoted to the Ryman League along with champions Peacehaven & Telscombe, who drew 0-0 at Horsham YMCA this afternoon.
Gavin Gordon also missed a penalty for the Reds just before the break, but it mattered little as Gregson's double saw them triumph at the home of their rivals for the runners-up spot.
Redhill are now expected to gain promotion to the Ryman League Division One South, with 16 teams being promoted from step five leagues to step four leagues this season as part of a non-league restructure.
The Reds currently occupy fourth position on the average points per game from the runners-up of step five leagues that are eligible for promotion as a result of Thurlow Nunn Premier Division side Wisbech Town turning down the chance of promotion earlier this week for financial reasons.
As such, Redhill now look set for promotion to step four, with the Ryman League Division One South their most likely destination.
Elsewhere in the Sussex County League Division One, Lingfield won 3-1 at home to Chichester City to end their season on a high, with Glen Boosey, Nicky Forster and Danny Oakins netting for Dixie Dean's men, who are guaranteed to finish sixth.
Dorking Wanderers, meanwhile, lost out to 2-1 at home to Selsey, with Matthew Robinson on target for Marc White's side.
