Veteran comic Jimmy Tarbuck has been arrested in Surrey as part of an investigation into an alleged case of historic child sex abuse. The 73-year-old was arrested in Kingston upon Thames on April 26 in connection with an incident alleged to have taken place in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, more than 30 years ago. The comedian affectionately known as Tarby - who became a household name through television shows including Winner Takes All and Live From The London Palladium - has been released on police bail pending further enquiries. A statement from North Yorkshire Police confirmed that a 73-year-old man had been arrested. It continued: "The complaint relates to an incident that occurred in the late 1970s when the victim was a young boy. "The arrest follows information passed to North Yorkshire Police by Metropolitan Police officers working on Operation Yewtree. "It would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage." Operation Yewtree was set up to investigate a large number of allegations of sex abuse made following the death of DJ Jimmy Savile.
