A WELL-DESERVED point at home to HAC with a patched up first team was enough to secure Dorkinians their highest league position in the club's 83-year history.
With promotion only a mathematical possibility, Dorkinians' main aim was to avoid defeat against their fourth-placed visitors to secure third spot in a tightly contested division.
After two successive promotions Dorkinians made a slow start to life in Senior One, however a fine run after Christmas culminated in six wins and two draws in their last nine games, with their only defeat narrowly coming against the league champions.
The game itself was as tight as the scoreline suggests, but with both teams fielding under-strength sides in this dead rubber, a stalemate was probably the fairest outcome.
There were a few half-chances, with the lion's share falling to the home team, but resolute defending combined with poor finishing ensured it ended goalless.
With such a young, talented squad at Dorkinians disposal, this season can be seen as very successful, and the club will hope to use it as a good springboard to push for Premier League status next season.
Manager Tony Pankhurst said that considering the loss of crucial players throughout the season it was a great testament to the club's strength in depth that they were able to be competitive at this level.
He added that next season would be another challenge with the loss of outstanding young talents in goalkeeper Gavin Morrison and young player of the year Seth Clenagan who are both off to study at university, along with Isaac Philpot who will hopefully be plying his trade for Sutton United in the Blue Square Bet South.
But Pankhurst believes his side are just a couple of players shy of becoming the first team capable in Dorkinians history to reach the Premier Division.
Dorkinians: Morrison (Whitmarsh), Dickinson, Clenagan, Bletsoe, Legg, Jepson, Neville, Morley, Slade, Philpot, Cape.
