Nescot students visited Barcelona last week as part of their Level 3Travel and Tourism course.
The 24 students planned and costed the whole trip, including finding the best value flights, preparing an itinerary and planning how the group would travel between excursions.
Each morning a small group made a presentation to the others on the day ahead, and each student was asked to keep a diary to reflect on their successes and areas for improvement.
Arriving in Spain on April 29 and returning to the UK on May 2, the students visited famous sights including La Sagrada Família, Park Güell, La Boqueria Market and Las Ramblas, as well as walking around the gothic quarter and seeing the April Fair of Catalonia.
"We managed to fit a lot in over the course of four days," said Neil Barnett, Head of Sport, Travel and Tourism and Public Services.
"The students worked very hard to plan the trip, and I think they were very pleased with how it went."
Neil, who supervised the visit alongside tutor Nicole Frimley, said other events within the department this year had included going to Paris and Tenerife, as well as travel within the UK to Skern Lodge in Devon.
Amber Buckle and James Needs, both 18 and Level 3 students, said they enjoyed the visit.
"Doing the presentations helped us with teamwork and our communication skills, and making the itinerary helped us work on our organisation," said James, who studied at The John Fisher School in Purley and wants to become a cabin crew member.
Amber, who went to Carshalton High School for Girls and also wants to work for an airline, said she had particularly enjoyed visiting La Sagrada Família.
"It was so beautiful, and we had an audio tour so we found out a lot about the history of the church," she added.
"Planning the itinerary each day and having the presentations was helpful, because we learnt about the culture of the area."
Nescot offers Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Travel and Tourism, a Level 3 Extended Diploma, and an HNC and HND in Travel and Tourism Management.
