REIGATE Priory hosted the National Club Championship for U13 girls, with more than 100 girls taking part on Sunday.

Surrey clubs were dominant with the Dragonflies finishing a creditable third.

Local rivals Caterham were the winners, with Chiswick runners up. The Dragonflies won three of their six league games to give them a national ranking of third overall, which is a fine achievement for a club that only started in 2009.

This was the first ever National Club Championship for girls and reflects a growth in youth lacrosse at club level.

At the same time Reigate also held an U15 invitational tournament. The winners were Brooklands, who had travelled from Manchester for the day.

The event concluded Reigate's season, which has seen the adult team finish seventh in Division One of the South East League, while the junior section has continued to grow with girls as young as eight playing the game.

Meanwhile, for the first time lacrosse is included in the Surrey Youth Games and Reigate are providing free training sessions.
