A MOTHER and son combination are celebrating after both reaching the final of a national shooting competition.

Bookham Rifle Club member Jeanette Eaton and her son Daniel Bavin have both reached the final of the National Smallbore Rifle Association/Eley.

The event is a smallbore competition of several classes, including ten-metre air pistol, which are shot in three stages.

The first two stages are held at the individual competitors' clubs and their validated cards are posted to the scorers.

Stage one eliminates 50 per cent of the entrants, these are pruned to the final eight in stage two.

Jeanette is the only lady shooter to reach the final, while 15-year-old Daniel, who is part of the national scout squad, is one of only two juniors.

He recently came third in the Scout Inter-County competition and has just been invited to join the GB Junior Pistol squad.

Meanwhile, Bookham member Alan Goodall recently continued his own successful season by winning the Scottish Open 10 metre Pistol Championship with a score of 196.5 ex 200.

Lina Jones has also had further success by winning gold in the English Sport Shooting Union championships at the Lord Roberts Centre, Bisley.
