Dorking teen receives award for act of bravery

A HEROIC teenager from Dorking is to receive a bravery medal from Surrey Police after stopping a thief in his tracks. Harvey King was working at Dorking Sports Centre when he witnessed a man exiting the changing rooms acting suspiciously. The personal trainer followed the man outside ebfore detaining him while colleagues phoned the police. As a result of Harvey's bravery he has been asked to attend an awards ceremony on June 19 where he will receive the Chief Constable's Commendation award. Speaking to the Advertiser, Mr King said: "I am so pleased to have received my award from the Surrey Police Force and I'm really looking forward to attending the award ceremony. "It was my first instinct to follow the gentleman outside, as I knew something didn't seem quite right. "I'm glad I followed my instincts. Everyone at the centre has been great and I thank everyone for their kind words." Geoff Evans, manager at Dorking Sports Centre said: "We are so proud of Harvey, he was extremely brave. "It is fantastic to see that the Surrey Police Force has commended Harvey's bravery. His award is truly deserved."
