THE names of all 111 villagers who died in the two world wars were read out at Warlingham's Remembrance Day event.
The alphabetical list – from Alfred Ansell to Hugh Wilson – formed a centrepiece of the well-attended ceremony on Warlingham Green.
The event began with a procession, led by Warlingham Flute Band, from nearby Mint Walk.
Taking part in the 400-yard procession to Warlingham Green were police officers and members of the village Cub and Scout groups.
About 900 people were on the green to pay their respects.
Among those present was 90-year-old Philip Maunder. Mr Maunder of Limpsfield Road, Hamsey Green, who fought in the Battle of Anzio, in Italy, in 1944, told the Mirror: "I come to this event every year. It's very important to me to remember my fallen comrades who died in action."
The service was led by the Rev Jeremy Blunden, the team rector of Warlingham.
The first wreath was laid by Harold Webberley, 85, the chairman of the Warlingham branch of the Royal British Legion. Others wreaths included those for pupils of Warlingham School and Warlingham Village Primary School, and district councillor Glynis Whittle.
