TADWORTH
and WALTON---------------------------------------------------------------------Round the houses supper
Twenty four parishioners of Tadworth's Church of the Good Shepherd recently
enjoyed a most unusual meal. They took part in a roving meal around Tadworth.
"It is also called a progressive supper", said Claire Jones, the organiser, "for
each course is eaten at a different home. It is an ideal way to get to know
others. In several cases no driving was necessary as the venues were walking
distance apart."
"The evening was organised so that each person opened a secret envelope to
find out the location of their starter, main course and dessert; with the added
surprise of not knowing who would be their dining companions until they
arrived!"
"The final venue, "added Claire,"was the Church meeting room where a great
deal of light hearted chat and enjoyment followed. This also gave the 24
participants to meet and share with others their various menus and venues! The
evening raised £240 for the Church Centenary appeal. Councillors' voluntary service
The new Mayor of Reigate & Banstead, Cllr Dr. Lynne Hack, who was
elected last Thursday evening at the Statutory Annual Council Meeting, announced
the charities she intended to support during her Mayoral year, which included
the Royal Marsden, and said that as it is the 150 anniversary of the granting of
the Royal Charter making Reigate and Redhill a municipal borough, she is asking
all councillors to each give 150 minutes of their time in voluntary service to
the community.
It is more than likely that some of the residents of the Ward of Tadworth & Walton-on-the-Hill would like to see their three councillors spending
their 150 minutes in clearing the rotting leaves and other debris from the
footpath that runs from The Avenue to Mere Road! Prize winning choir
The Tadworth Primary School Choir recently took part in the Banstead Arts
Festival Choir competition, and they won! The choir, with Isabel Ainsworth on
her harp, sang two songs. They included 'Sing'- originally composed by Andrew
Lloyd Webber and Gary Barlow, and fast becoming the school anthem – which
sounded amazing accompanied by the harp.
Stephen Oliver, who organised the competition, said he particularly liked
the way the children opened their mouths and produced a proper full tone and
that they sounded confident and well rehearsed. Mrs Davies, for the school, said
she was also very proud of how professional and well behaved the children
were.
The prize the choir won was a cheque for £250 for music resources for the
school. Two minor changes
Passengers using Tadworth station will be pleased to learn that, in spite
of three platforms being closed at London Bridge while that station is being
virtually rebuilt, the new timetable for this line, that came into effect on
19th May, shows no changes part from the 1808 and the 1808 leaving Victoria, on
weekdays, each one minute earlier than hitherto. Gardeners Delight
This annual event organised by Sue Edwards on behalf of the Kingswood,
Walton and Tadworth Horticultural Society will take place on Saturday and
Sunday, 15 and 16th June, from 1 pm to 5 pm each day. This provides a wonderful
opportunity to view some of the best gardens in the area, pick up hints and
advice, and enjoy Teas, Ice cream or Lunches at some of the eleven venues.
The garden at Woodcraft, Beech Drive, Kingswood, will be open only on the
Sunday. Of the seven Tadworth gardens, one at 14 Meare Close is taking part for
the first time this year, as is 39 Meadow Walk; one of the three participating
gardens in Walton-on-the-Hill.
Tickets cost £4.50 which give admittance to all gardens, are available from
any garden on either day. A full list of addresses of the gardens that will be
open, along with any other information, can be obtained from Sue Edwards on
01737 813025.
