IN MARCH 1983 an 11-year-old boy stood on stage for the first time at Reigate Grammar School in a production of All the King's Men. Today that boy has become television superstar David Walliams. Now the Little Britain star is returning to the Reigate Road school to revisit his first performance. In a one-off documentary on ITV on Thursday Mr Walliams attempts to reunite members of the cast to recreate a photo taken all those years ago. He said: "That's the first moment I was on stage. "It was such an incredible high, hearing the laughter and the applause. "It was the first moment where I felt, 'Oh, this is something I'm good at. "All I had to do was play this queen and come on and fan myself, while these other boys, who were playing my ladies in waiting, were singing to me. "For me, it was a real eureka moment." During the course of the programme Mr Walliams revisits his childhood home in Banstead and speaks to the teachers who first put him on stage. Former English teacher Keith Shipton said: "As I can remember, looking at this little boy and seeing the eyes which I'm seeing in front of me now, they're eyes of somebody who wants to laugh and make people laugh." The show will also take the Britain's Got Talent judge back to his old classrooms to meet current staff and pupils on his quest to recreate one defining moment from his childhood. "I actually think it does take other people to unlock it in you when you're a child," Mr Walliams said. "I don't think you can take it for granted." David Walliams: A snapshot in time is on ITV at 9pm on Thursday.
