Firefighters, ambulance crews and police units dashed to Ranmore Common on Sunday afternoon following a report of a plane crash.
A Westcott resident reported hearing the engine of a light aircraft cut out as it flew over the village at about 3.45pm.
The plane then disappeared from view behind a hill.
Emergency services rendezvoused at a public car park and a police helicopter was scrambled to search for wreckage, but nothing was found.
A spokesman for Surrey Fire and Rescue Service said that the call had been made with good intent.
