LEATHERHEAD is gridlocked after a number of roads were closed following a serious collision between two lorries on the A24 Leatherhead Bypass.
The incident, which occurred close to the junction with Headley Road (the turning for Headley Court), was reported to police at 1.48pm today (Friday).
As a result, the A24 has been shut between the Knoll and Beaverbrook roundabouts, while Headley Road, Highlands Road and Church Road are also closed to traffic.
The Surrey Air Ambulance was called to the scene, where firefighters were required to free one of the drivers from his vehicle. The helicopter is reported to have left the scene at around 3.35pm.
A police spokeswoman said the incident involved two lorries which were travelling in opposite directions.
At 5.15pm, she added: "Some road closures continue to be in place while an investigation into the collision is carried out."
A spokesman for the South East Coast Ambulance Service said a man in his 20s had been taken to St George's Hospital, Tooting, with leg injuries and abdominal pain.

At 4.30pm, Dorking resident Paul Harrison told the Advertiser: ""The Ashtead roundabout was closed off, and traffic was being diverted into Leatherhead along the Epsom Road.
"It took me approximately 40 minutes to get through the town.
"When I got to Givon's Grove roundabout I was expecting that to be closed, but it wasn't. I can only assume the road was closed further up, possibly at the junction of the B2033 Reigate Road."
Anyone who witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it is asked to call Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference P13208772.
