A FUNERAL service for a popular TV presenter was so crowded that many guests had to stand.
Family and friends came together to remember Mike Morris, of Pixham Lane, Dorking, who died of heart failure last month, aged 66.
More than 200 people crammed into All Saints Church, in Bookham, including famous faces such as Timmy Mallett and Richard Keys, who worked with Mr Morris during his TV career.
Mr Morris's son-in-law Greg Armon-Jones said: "The church was absolutely packed out, which goes to show you what kind of man he was. It has a seating capacity of 100 but there were about 250 who came.
"The location was special to the family, because both of Michael's daughters were married there and my son George was christened there a year ago."
Mr Armon-Jones added: "He was an eccentric personality and that came across in the service.
"He was carried out to Elected by Alice Cooper and that was his choice, being the person he was.
"It was a very touching service with some lovely tributes.
"I read out my wife Helen's words and it was one of the hardest things I've ever done.
"Following the service, we all went to the Plough in Effingham and even that was packed to the rafters."
Mr Morris, who was undergoing cancer treatment at the time of his death, worked as a sports reporter and presenter for TV-am, Good Morning Britain and Yorkshire local news show Calendar.
He conducted the first live British television interview with Nelson Mandela, following his release from prison in 1990.
Following the service on November 2, Mr Armon-Jones added: "It's been a very difficult time for the family, but we have had so many nice messages and e-mails and that has helped. We are so grateful for that.
"I was very close to him from the day I met him. He wasn't just a father-in-law to me, but I felt we had a relationship similar to the one I share with my own dad.
"Everyone says that their loved ones were amazing but, in the case of Michael, he really was."
