THE man who was killed on the M23 this afternoon is believed to have fallen from a bridge and been hit by a lorry, police have said.
Police had initially said the victim was hit by a car but it now appears it was a lorry that hit the man.
The victim was hit by a lorry that was travelling northbound on the motorway, about a mile from the Gatwick Airport junction.
The motorway had to be closed, which has led to huge delays in the area all afternoon, even once the M23 was reopened.
Police were called to the incident at about 1.15pm after reports that a man had fallen from a bridge over the motorway.
The man was later pronounced dead at the scene.
With heavy congestion in the area, motorists have been advised to avoid the motorway.
Witnesses are asked to call Surrey Police on 101.
