The baby, the first child of the Duchess and her husband Prince William will be a future King or Queen of England.
Though no one knows the sex of the child speculation has been rife in recent months with bookmakers taking bets on the future monarch's name.
Currently Alexandra is the favourite name for a girl and George for a boy.
Paul Harrison, Kate's Paignton-based second cousin once removed said: "I heard it on the news this morning. It is very exciting. I hope it will be girl. My money would be on her being called Elizabeth. There is a strong tradition on Kate's side. The other option I thought of is Dorothy, but that's not regal enough. If it is a boy I think is may be William, to keep that tradition going.
"I've been in touch with the palace on finding out I was a relative to Kate. I dropped them a line. I was sent Christmas cards wishing me well for the past two years. They weren't signed however in case I sold them on Ebay".
