A MAN who was arrested after a hammer attack in Merstham has been released with no charge.
Detectives from East Surrey CID had referred the case to the crown prosecution service who advised there was insufficient evidence to charge the man, who was then released.
Officers were called to a property in Bletchingley Road, Merstham, at around 9.15pm on Tuesday following reports of a serious assault where a man had been hit in the head with a hammer.
The man, in his 50s, was arrested shortly afterwards.
Surrey Police spokesman Dawn Groom said: "At this stage in the investigation there is not believed to be any threat to any other members of the community and that the offender and the victim are known to each other."
