Leatherhead must return focus to league, says Brady

RICHARD BRADY says it is all about the "bread and butter" of the league for Leatherhead now following their recent cup exploits.

The Tanners were involved in a ding-dong 4-4 draw in the FA Trophy with Bath City at Fetcham Grove on Saturday, before losing the third round qualifying replay 2-0 on Tuesday night in Somerset.

And while the Tanners boss was buoyed by his side's performance against a side from two divisions higher, he said the focus must now switch back to the league, with a home game against Horsham today (Saturday).

"It was good fun in the cup and we put in good performances, which will give us confidence," said Brady.

"But it is back to our bread and butter now and we need to concentrate on the league."

Brady said he had been encouraged by his side's performances against the Blue Square Bet South side though, with Leatherhead twice leading in the rollercoaster 4-4 draw on Saturday. And the Tanners had a few chances early on in the replay, before Bath City took advantage at a set-piece and then doubled their lead with less than 20 minutes to go.

"We were certainly on top in the first 20-25 minutes," said Brady.

"But you need to capitalise when you are on top against a team from two divisions higher.

"The lads gave everything they had though and credit to them, they did well."

Brady was also buoyed by a good travelling support at Bath, adding that he hoped for a similarly good crowd back at home against Horsham on Saturday.

However, he is expecting a difficult game against a Horsham side that are currently 18th in the Ryman League Division One South table.

"They will be a tough nut to crack," he said.

"I am sure they will come and try to frustrate us, but we are looking forward to getting back to the league and continuing our good recent performances."

And with the league looking particularly tight this season, Brady knows that it is vital to stay among the upper echelons of the division as the Tanners look for an immediate return to the Ryman Premier Division.

"The cups can be a distraction," he said.

"But the league is our focus and we won't look any further ahead than Saturday against Horsham.

"We know it is pretty tight this year, but we will just take it one game at a time.

"We want to win on Saturday, then we can move on to the next one."

Other than the injured Jamie Coyle and Matt Reed, Brady is hoping to be able to call upon an almost fully-fit squad for the game.
