THOUSANDS are expected to line Mole Valley's streets this Sunday to cheer on 20,000 keen cyclists in a strenuous 100-mile ride.

The Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 and Classic races are both taking place on the day, with the latter event featuring 150 of the world's top professional male cyclists battling it out over the Surrey Hills.

The first riders in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 are expected in Dorking from 8.30am, with the peak flow of riders between 10am and noon. In Leatherhead, cyclists are expected from 9am, with peak flow from 10.50am to 12.50pm.

The professionals in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic will be powering through Dorking between 4.20 and 5pm, and through Leatherhead between 4.40 and 5.25pm.

Leading the line-up will be Tour de France Green Jersey winner Peter Sagan.

In total, 13 of the 150 riders due to start the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic will have taken part in this year's Tour de France.

Race director Mick Bennett said: "This star-studded field, headed by Peter Sagan in the first year of the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic, is testimony to the international standing of the event and our ambitions for the future.

"The field has a great line-up of top sprinters, classics-style riders and the very best domestic and rising stars from Great Britain.

"It is surely the best field ever assembled for the first year of a new one-day race and we are set for an exciting and action-packed race and a thrilling finish on The Mall."

Extensive road closures will be in place throughout the county, after the riders in both events begin at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and weave their way through Chiswick, Kingston and Walton-on-Thames, before moving on to Ripley, West Horsley, Newlands Corner, Abinger Hammer, Holmbury St Mary and Forest Green.

The cyclists will then face the climb up Leith Hill's 14 per cent gradient to the highest point in the South East.

At this point, in the Classic race, the professionals will be pushed further, with two extra loops of the section containing the steep climb.

Cyclists will then head on to Westcott and Dorking before pushing to the summit of Box Hill and then crossing Headley Heath to the Leatherhead support hub at the 72-mile marker, which will be in the Randalls Road car park.

After refuelling, the competitors will head on to Cobham and Esher before returning to London for a spectacular finish along The Mall.
