THE director of smash hit Simon Pegg movie The World's End has revealed that concerned Dorking residents called the fire brigade during filming of the opening sequence.
Edgar Wright made the admission during a Twitter conversation about the film – part of which was shot on Box Hill last year – this week.
Replying to Dorking-based tweeter @BilliusKarr, Mr Wright wrote: "When we shot that scene someone in Dorking called the fire brigade to say Box Hill was on fire."
In the scene, a car is set alight at night, a sight which was photographed by Advertiser reader Emma Davies.
At the time, Simon Pegg himself tweeted: "Made Box Hill glow orange tonight. Heading back up to Herts with a warm heart and a fractured hand."
The film, also starring Nick Frost, Eddie Marsan and Paddy Considine, is in cinemas now.
