DRIVERS planning to travel through Surrey during the Prudential RideLondon cycling events this Sunday are strongly advised to leave extra time and plan their journeys. The roads that make up the route in Surrey will begin to close from 5am. Cars parked on the event routes will be removed from midnight on Sunday morning. While the events are taking place, there will be no access for traffic on or across these roads, except for emergency services. There will be crossing points for pedestrians and cyclists around the route until the participants are due to come through. From Forest Green to Ockley, roads used for the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic professional race only will begin to close from 1pm. Steve Bush, Highways Agency Emergency Planner said: "We know from last year's Olympic cycling events, which followed a similar route, that the roads in parts of Surrey and London will be either closed or busy on the day of these cycling events, and that traffic that normally uses the local roads may end up using major routes such as the M25. "We will be monitoring the traffic on our roads and working with the event organisers to help keep road users moving during the weekend. We are asking drivers to plan ahead of their journey in this area, whether it is your normal journey or going on holiday, and to allow extra time. "Building on the legacy of the Olympics, we have continued working with Surrey County Council and have a sound basis for traffic planning for this event." Roads from Hampton Court to Byfleet including Walton-on-Thames and Weybridge will start to open from 4pm. Roads from Byfleet to the A25 near Silent Pool, Albury including Ripley, West Horsley and Clandon will start to open from 4.45pm. The A29 through Ockley will start to open from 5.30pm.
