TANDRIDGE'S answer to the Horse of the Year Show took place on Sunday.

The annual St Leonard's Church charity show included day-long equestrian events, including show jumping classes and dressage.

There was also a novelty dog show during the afternoon, including categories such as waggiest tail, most appealing eyes, best trick and the dog which the judge would most like to take home.

Riders came from as far afield as Kent, Sussex and London to Fickleshole Farm, off Fairchildes Lane in Chelsham and rosettes and trophies were presented to the top finishers in the various categories.

The show has become a popular fixture in the district's calendar since it was established more than 20 years ago.

The proceeds are still being added up but show organisers hope to have raised about £1,000.

The event raised funds for the maintenance of the churchyard at St Leonard's Church in Church Lane, Chelsham.

Church secretary Gillian Cooper said: "It was such a lovely atmosphere.

"The whole thing is conducted with a such a wonderful spirit."

Plans will soon be in hand for next year's show which again is likely to be held over the summer.
