SURREY'S survival hopes suffered a huge blow today (Sunday) as Durham completed a comprehensive victory.
Durham wrapped up victory by an innings and 144 runs on the final day to leave Surrey bottom of the LV= County Championship Division One, with 76 points from 11 matches.
Durham bowler Mark Wood took career best figures of 5-44 as Surrey were all out for 169 in their second innings, having been bowled out for just 108 in their first innings in response to the hosts' 421.
South African batsman Hashim Amla top scored for Surrey in the second innings with a battling 89 on his debut, but he received little support as Surrey capitulated to a third County Championship defeat of the summer.
Surrey remain the only team in the division without a win this campaign and with just five games to play, they are in a battle to avoid relegation to division two.
