A GLOBAL animal charity has dispatched educational material to Surrey schools following the shocking slaughter of doves in Bookham.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has taken the emergency action in a bid to stop repetitions of the August 21 incident in which 54 doves were killed with an air rifle.
Three boys aged 10 and 11 have been questioned in relation to what Wildlife Aid Foundation founder Simon Cowell condemned as a "sickening massacre".
PETA's "Kindness Kits" contain humane-education material designed to help children of all ages recognise the importance of compassion and empathy for all beings.
The organisation claims studies by mental health experts and law enforcement officials have revealed that people who have abused animals are four times more likely to have a record of violent crime against other humans.
Spokesman Ben Williamson said: "We want to prevent any further acts of cruelty. Instilling empathy in children is vital – the safety of the whole community depends on it."
