THE places where motorists are most likely to be given a parking ticket in the Mole Valley have been revealed.
The five hotspots in the district are North Street and Church Street in Leatherhead; Lower Road in Ashtead; High Street in Dorking; and Povey Cross Road in Hookwood.
The figures, released following a Freedom of Information request, also reveal that the district council has collected more than £630,000 from parking tickets over the last three years.
Nick Gray, the district council's strategic director, said: "The district council, as part of its recently approved car parking strategy, is committed to protecting the environment and character of the district's towns and villages by helping residents, visitors and businesses use well-located car parks to access the local services they need which will help support traders.
"The council has listened to the concerns of residents and will continue to enforce its commitment to issue PCNs (Penalty Charge Notices) to those vehicles in contravention of parking orders on-street and in its car parks.
"Four of the five top locations for a PCN to be issued are on-street and not in car parks, which suggests that the importance of paying and displaying properly is generally understood.
"One such on-street location, Povey Cross Road in Hookwood, is an area which the district council has identified that airport parking companies use to park their vehicles and negatively affect access on that road."
The figures also revealed that the amount of parking tickets dished out in the district is on the increase.
There were 7,924 tickets issued between 2010 and 2011, while 8,732 were issued between 2012 and 2013.
Mr Gray continued: "Vehicles which do not park in the correct manner in car parks, for example parking in disabled bays and not displaying a blue badge, or not purchasing pay and display
tickets, negatively affect residents and visitors who wish to access those facilities.
"Likewise, parking enforcement is key to maintaining traffic flow and ensuring that residents are protected from those attempting to park without paying.
"In their role, civil enforcement officers take a fair and reasonable approach to issuing penalty charge notices (PCNs) and it should be stressed that there are no targets set for issuing them."
