TORRENTIAL rain foreshortened Sunday's charity Picnic in the Park event in Whyteleafe Recreation Ground.
Hundreds enjoyed an afternoon of fun and entertainment in the park off Hillbury Road – until the showers set in.
Attractions ranged from live music and BMX stunt riding to an array of stalls, involving local organisations and a boxing display.
Energetic pursuits included a football match, involving East Surrey MP Sam Gyimah, and a race around the streets of the village, with entrants wearing wellies.
Co-organiser Vicky Warner-Hill said: "Many people said they really enjoyed the day.
"It bucketed down during the afternoon, which sadly wiped out the final two hours of the event.
"A birds of prey show failed to really happen because the birds just flew into the trees.
"And one of the bands could not play because of the weather."
Among those who did entertain visitors was Kat Head, the winner of a recent open mic night at the nearby Whyteleafe Tavern pub.
The proceeds are still being totted up this week, but the money will be split between Help for Heroes, St Catherine's Hospice and the Maypole Project, which helps children with complex medical needs.
