A three-year-old child was assaulted by an egg which was thrown from a car window.
The incident happened outside Hillcroft School in Chaldon Road, Caterham at about 8.55am yesterday.
Police believe the vehicle involved was a silver Mitsubishi Outlander.
The incident prompted horrified reactions on the police's Tandridge Beat Facebook site.
Vicki Stone wrote "For God's sake what is the world coming to."
And Rosemary Jones said: "That is absolutely disgusting.
"I hope the little one is alright and that you catch the vile person who did it."
