HUNDREDS of people have been queuing across East Surrey to get their hands on the latest installment of popular video game Grand Theft Auto, which was released at midnight.
Many stores opened specially for the release of Grand Theft Auto V.
Fraser Lloyd, an employee at Game in Redhill's Belfry Centre, said: "More than 200 people came at midnight for the official opening.
"It really is the game of the decade. There hasn't ever been a game this big in terms of name and popularity."
The queues continued at the store today, with dozens snaking along barriers to pick up their copy this lunchtime.
It was a similar story at other retailers. Dozens of people were already queuing in Epsom High Street hours before the release last night.
The latest version of the game has new features such as the ability to switch between three characters. An interactive, multiplayer online version will be released on October 1.
Mark Haridimou, 32, from Coulsdon, said he was excited to buy the game in Redhill. "You can never get bored of it, there are so many missions you can do," he said. "I probably play it around 12 hours a week, it's the first thing I do when I come from work - straight to the Xbox, and food comes later."
Fans of the game pre-ordered it as early as March. The game costs £45 and it is predicted to generate $1 billion in its first month of sales alone.
