FOUR separate Christmas lights switch-ons over the next few days will give Caterham and Warlingham a festive feel.

Sonia Hunt, Caterham's town crier, will turn on Caterham Valley's Christmas lights at 4.30pm tomorrow.

The ceremony will be at the Asprey Fountain, in Station Avenue, with most shops staying open late.

Just a stone's throw away, Santa will arrive at Church Walk shopping centre in a Caterham Seven sports car before doing the honours at 6pm.

Cubs and Brownies from the Caterham area will accompany him in a lantern procession. There will also be games stalls run by local community groups and charities.

Entertainment, from 3pm to 8pm, will include carol singing and a visit from Mother Christmas.

Warlingham's big day on Saturday includes children's rides and various stalls on, or near, Warlingham Green.

There will be a children's lantern parade from 4.45pm in Mint Walk, led by Warlingham Flute Band, arriving at the green for the switch-on at 5pm.

Other attractions will include carols from a children's choir, musical puppets, a barbecue, a Christmas market at Warlingham Village Hall, and Santa's grotto in Warlingham Church hall.

The ancient cedar tree in Caterham's High Street will be the setting for pre-Christmas festivities that same evening, staged by Caterham on the Hill Parish Council.

The free event, from 5.45pm, includes carol singing, a visit from Santa, mince pies and mulled wine. The switch-on will be at 6pm.

A collection will benefit the Friends of Caterham Dene Hospital.
