ANDREW Lloyd Webber's smash-hit musical Jesus Christ Superstar will be brought to life next week.
Banstead and Nork Amateur Operatic Society (Banaos) will take over the Charles Cryer Theatre, Carshalton, with this iconic modern take on the traditional passion play.
First produced in 1971, the show features such famous hits as I Don't Know How To Love Him, Heaven On Their Minds and Jesus Christ Superstar.
This latest show comes hot on the heels of recent Banaos productions of Mel Brooks' The Producers, at Epsom Playhouse, and Gilbert and Sullivan's Iolanthe at Banstead Community Hall.
The story follows the last weeks of Jesus' life including his betrayal and cricifixion.
Banaos chairman John Daniels said: "The show looks at the relationship of Jesus with other characters, particularly Judas. Judas is seen as a tragic figure dissatisfied with the direction in which Jesus is taking his disciples. Modern attitudes and slang are seen in the lyrics and there are frequent references to our lives today."
