Fuller's County League Division Two
Chaldon CMO 62
Merstham 66-2
Merstham took a comprehensive victory against Chaldon CMO on a damp wicket at Quality Street on Saturday, earning maximum points for the second week running to continue their flying start to their 150th anniversary season.
They won the toss and decided to bowl on a damp wicket at Quality Street. Chaldon began well and were 38-1 but opening batsman Mohsin (11) and number three Aqeel Arshad (23) proved to be the visitors' top scorers as they were all out for 62 in the 20th over.
For Merstham, Suliman Younis (2-32 in seven overs) and Ammar Tahir (4-3 from 3.1 overs) both bowled really well. There were two excellent run-outs, first by a great throw from Norman Kiyani from the boundary and the second a direct throw from Jason Kyte. Manish Patel also took a great catch at short third man.
In reply, Merstham batted well, with only an early loss of Ashar Syed. Jason Kyte struck a steady 17 and Norman Kiyani complied a sensible 40 not out, which included an extra cover six towards the pavilion. Merstham won comfortably by eight wickets and the game was completed by 4.30pm.
Skipper Naveed Saeed takes his side to Woodmansterne on Saturday, followed by a trip to Mitcham in the League Cup on Sunday. Merstham are hoping to do well in the competition, as they host the final on September 7.
