BOWLS: New Surrey County president Robin Taylor (Windlesham) will have been delighted that his team won their opening match of the season 145-81 against Cambridgeshire last Wednesday.
Surrey have an excellent record against their East Anglia opponents, having won at least the last seven fixtures between the sides. On this occasion Surrey won on five of the six rinks, with the other drawn.
Joe Cable (Purley Bury) turned over a new leaf, with his rink achieving the highest score with a 40-7 win against their opponents. He was assisted by John Farrell (North Sheen), Vic Painter (Shirley Park) and county secretary Derek Harvey (Purley). Adam Clarke (Weybridge) and Richard Turner (Shirley Park) both received their county badges from president Robin Taylor for their success in the unbadged singles competition last season.
