LIVESTOCK, vintage vehicles and a Wall of Death motorbike show were among the rich array of attractions at Sunday's Cowpie Country Show.

The annual event for more than 30 years drew thousands of visitors to Blue Anchor Farm, in Blindley Heath, having previously been held in Betchworth.

After the heavy rain the day before, thankfully the weather stayed benign for the big day.

There was something to interest and entertain just about everyone.

Livestock featured prominently at the show, which is organised by Surrey Young Farmers.

Sheep, cattle, pigs, ducklings, donkeys and llamas were among the animals on show before they were judged.

Arena displays featured sheepdogs, bloodhounds and terrier racing.

The prowess of birds of prey was also amply demonstrated in an impressive show.

Visitors could receive tuition in fly fishing, listen to a marching band or enjoy ferret racing.

Traditional fair attractions also figured prominently.

Among them was Punch and Judy, circus skills, pony rides and face-painting.

For those interested in going back in time, a medieval village featured jester workshops and giant games.

More sedate treats ranged from a craft marquee to a food tent.

The quaintly-named Cowpie Show has an unusual derivation.

It originated from cow pats – and the sport of "Cowpie" throwing, once popular in the USA.
