FOOD STALLS, quad bikes and birds of prey took over a pub garden for the Bank Holiday weekend.

Organisers say more than 800 people attended The Festival of Surrey Life on Sunday and Monday, despite patchy weather.

The Fox Revived pub in Norwood Hill near Horley played host to the annual family festival, now in its fourth year,

Among the attractions were Nicola and Barry from Henfold Birds of Prey, with their collection of feathered friends, including Dotty, an American burrowing owl only too pleased to pose for pictures.

The owner of The Fox Revived Jon Briscoe said: "I created the Festival of Surrey Life to showcase the best from our county, and gather everything that's really great about Surrey in one place.

"As a parent myself, I knew that a fun event for families over the late-May Bank Holiday, that's also free, would be popular, and that is proved by our returning visitors."

Those who attended also enjoyed a barbecue put on by the pub's kitchen team while on stage, Ron Covey performed classic numbers, followed by Kingston-based singer-songwriter Sophie Plummer, a former Surrey's Got Talent finalist.

Busker Tom Stephenson from Crawley also entertained crowds with a range of songs with guitar in hand from a prime spot under the apple tree in the pub garden, providing the perfect soundtrack for those enjoying the bouncy castle.

Dave and Anne Page from St John Ambulance were on hand for the event. The husband and wife team opened the doors of an emergency vehicle to allow visitors to see inside and learn about their vital work.

Unit manager Dave said: "It's so important that children are familiar with St John, and they see our representatives as approachable. We explain and show them our kit bags, stretchers and inside our ambulance, so they'll feel comfortable should they ever have to travel inside one."
