SPORTY staff at a Reigate pensions firm have raised thousands of pounds for Alzheimer's Research UK.
Ten staff from Just Retirement took to the saddle for a 300-mile cycle ride from London to Paris to raise money for dementia research.
The team completed the event last on Saturday, May 10 and raised more than £17,000.
Alzheimer's Research UK is one of Just Retirement's chosen charities for 2013/14, and the gruelling four-day cycle is just one of many fundraising challenges being taken on by staff during the year.
For the latest challenge, the team covered more than 100 miles on the first day, cycling from London to Dover to catch a ferry across the channel, before heading south through France to finish underneath the Eiffel Tower.
The team also took on extra challenges to boost their fundraising total – including a 20-hour relay cycling event on Reigate's High Street in March that raised more than £700.
Business analyst Jon Robinson, who took part in the ride, said: "We wanted to raise money for a charity that fits with what we do as a company, and Alzheimer's Research UK was the obvious choice. When we were out raising money in Reigate a lot of people came and talked to us about their experiences, and it was clear to us then what the charity means to people."
Miranda Johnson, head of corporate and community partner-ships at Alzheimer's Research UK, said: "Every £20 raised by the staff at Just Retirement is enough to fund another hour of research, bringing new treatments, preventions and improved diagnosis closer."
