WITH all the match-fixing scandals surrounding New Zealand cricket players at the moment, I must admit I'm rather happy to be here in the lovely town of Reigate playing cricket for the Llamas.
I was born in South Africa, live in New Zealand and have a Portuguese passport, some may call me multi-cultural but nonetheless it's opened up a window for me to be involved with the Sussex County Cricket Club which has been a fantastic experience so far.
As a Manchester United supporter, it's been a tough season for me to arrive into the UK with my head held high, so I'm glad I've brought my All Blacks jersey along because we all know there isn't a more consistently well performing side in world sport than them!
Right, enough about me.
Thanks to the immaculate outfield drainage at Park Lane Road we have managed to play two reduced, nearly impossible games of cricket which have put us in great shape at this early stage of the season.
We are working hard at training twice a week with our revamped coaching structure and constantly driving our players to push for county trials and get a taste of the next level and what it takes to not only get there but be successful as well.
Much like the All Blacks, we have a fantastic competitive culture at the club with some serious player depth. We all enjoy celebrating each other's success and more importantly winning games for the Llamas!
Oh, and I forgot to mention that my mother's side of the family is Dutch, I wonder how many passports I'm actually allowed to have at once...
Until next time... Go the All Blacks and the Llamas!
