CATERHAM School have enjoyed a recent run of success in several sports, with the U14 netball team making it through to the regional rounds of the National Schools Tournament and the school's senior swimmers becoming district champions.

The netball squad did particularly well, progressing to the regional rounds despite losing their first match 11-8 against strong favourites Guilford High.

However, undeterred, they went on to win their next five matches to progress to a play-off against St Catherine's, who had won the other section.

During those five matches, Caterham played to a high standard, defeating Lingfield Notre Dame 11-3, Tormead 12-5, Tiffin 9-3 and Sir William Perkins 14-3.

And they maintained the standard in the play-off, where both teams played some excellent netball, but Caterham emerged victorious, winning 11-7.

Head of netball, Jaclyn Leach, said: "The team showed great character to come back from their initial defeat.

"They were able to focus and remained calm under significant pressure from some very strong teams.

"They had to play to a really high standard, particularly in their match against St Catherine's and I think that they were outstanding. Their coach, Jen Farmer, has developed them into an excellent squad."

Elsewhere, the school's swimmers have been making a big splash, with both the senior girls and boys emerging as champions at a recent Senior and Intermediate District Swimming Gala.

The event, held at Caterham School last Wednesday (November 14), saw seven schools participate in the gala, including Reigate Grammar, Royal Alexandra & Albert School, Warlingham, Woldingham, Reigate School, Dunottar and Caterham School.

And after a very competitive evening, Caterham's senior girls and senior boys squads both emerged as champions.

In the intermediate age group, Caterham girls were second, while the boys were third, losing out to Reigate Grammar.

Caterham School's head of swimming, Rachel Hart, said: 'This was our first swimming gala of the year so I was delighted that we did so well.

"This was a great team effort across all the squads because every point was crucial so all our swimmers put in a great effort.

"Our swimming coach, Sarah Nicoll, is helping to improve the standard across all the squads."

Meanwhile, Caterham School's U15 lacrosse team recently finished second in the Surrey Schools Championship after a great run to the final.

The school team finished second in their section to progress to the semi finals, where they met Guildford High, who had won their section.

In a compelling match Caterham won 5-3, taking them into the final against St Catherine's School.

In a very competitive match they played extremely well, but unfortunately lost 4-3.

Head of girls' games, Nat Lomas, said: "This was an excellent performance by the girls.

"They had to play at their very best to beat a strong Guildford High team and they maintained that high standard into the final.

"Unfortunately, although they showed great skill and commitment, they could not secure victory against a very good St Catherine's team."
